The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) manages the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Program that provides traffic management, incident management and traveler information services 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The ITS Program uses smart technologies to monitor the highways and promote mobility in southeast Florida. The District Four and District Six Regional Transportation Management Centers (RTMC) in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties serve as the regional command posts for the ITS Program that manages 95 Express.
FDOT operations staff at the TMC oversee 95 Express operations 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with the help of the ITS devices deployed along the express lanes. Dedicated traffic operators monitor the highway’s conditions through Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras and roadways detectors. They also post traffic information through the Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and 511 Traveler Information System to alert drivers of the roadway’s conditions in real-time. Additionally, TMC operators oversee toll pricing and coordinate with partner agencies to clear incidents through its incident management services, such as the Road Rangers Service Patrols and Incident Response Vehicle (IRV), Florida Highway Patrol and others.
