Guidelines for Using Express Lanes

Driving in the Express Lanes

  • The express lanes are for long distance trips.
  • You cannot exit the express lanes until you reach a designated exit point or the end of the lanes.
  • Do not attempt to cut through or drive over the plastic poles to exit the express lanes.
  • If you enter the express lanes by accident, stay calm and proceed to the nearest designated exit point or the end of the lanes.
  • Do not stop in the express lanes at any time, even if you are confused.
Pull over to a safe location outside the express lanes if necessary.
  • Weaving in and out of the express lanes is illegal. This can cause crashes and lead to fines and points on your license.
  • Be alert and pay attention to all overhead signs, signage, pavement markings, and posted speed limits.
  • Go to 95 Express Trip Options / Entry and Exit Points  to see 95 Express entrance and exit points.

Tolls and Payment

  • Tolls are collected electronically on the express lanes. Drivers who use the express lanes must own and display a SunPass® transponder. You can purchase a SunPass® transponder at Publix, CVS Pharmacies, or Florida’s Turnpike service plazas.
  • If you unintentionally enter the express lanes without a SunPass® or toll-free registration, you are still obligated to pay the toll. Toll payment instructions are available in the “Violations and Enforcement” section on this site.

Safety in the Express Lanes

  • If you are involved in a crash or your vehicle breaks down in the express lanes, pull to the left shoulder if you are able. Dial *FHP (*347) on your cellphone for assistance. Stay in your vehicle with the doors locked and wait for help. Do not stand outside your car near moving traffic.
