Toll Violations and Enforcement
Toll Violations
All vehicles that are not exempt from tolls must use a SunPass® transponder or other
Florida accepted transponder. Drivers without a transponder will have a photo taken of
the vehicle’s license plate as it travels under the tolling equipment. A Toll Enforcement
Invoice is then mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle for the toll(s) incurred over
a 30-day period, plus a $2.50 administrative fee. In addition, you will be subject to a $25
daily violation charge.
Drivers of vehicles qualifying for toll exemption — registered South Florida Vanpools, 3+
registered carpools, registered hybrid vehicles and motorcycles are responsible for
shielding their transponders to avoid incurring tolls or a fine. Drivers with hard case
transponders will need to shield them in a protective bag. Those with SunPass Minis will
need to place a shield over them. If the transponder is not properly shielded, the toll rate
in effect will be deducted from the user’s pre-paid SunPass account.
If you have any questions or would like to request a shield bag or Mini shield, please
contact 1-800-234-RIDE.
Enforcement
Safety is the top priority for FDOT. The Department partnered with Florida Highway
Patrol to manage enforcement on 95 Express. Dedicated troopers patrol the facility to
enforce all traffic laws, including speeding, illegal lane changing, failing to move over or
slow down for active event scenes, and others. Violators may be subject to traffic
citations and/or fines.
